Master saxophonist and clarinetist Lutz Buechner was born in Bremen, Germany in 1968 and would study in Hamburg with the famous West Coast alto saxophonist Herb Geller. Since 1994, he has been a permanent member of the highly-esteemed NDR Bigband: Hamburg Radio Jazz Orchestra, regarded as one of the best in Europe.
Buechner has also played with European big bands such as the Frankfurt Radio Band, the WDR Bigband in Cologne, the Metropol Orchestra, and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebow in Amsterdam. As a member of the NDR Bigband, he has been featured at Jazz Festivals in London, Chicago, Paris, and Beijing, and played tours in Latin America, South America, Spain, Portugal, and South Africa with jazz greats including Al Jarreau, Wayne Shorter, Benny Golson, Clark Terry, Lionel Hampton, Abdullah Ibrahim, and many others.
Lutz has performed with his Quartet at the Jazz Festival Hamburg, the International Jazz Festival in Dubai, Ystad Jazz Festival, and was personally invited by Nils Landgren to play at Jazz under Stjarnorma in Sweden. In other quartet situations, Lutz has worked with the legendary Danish drummer Alex Riel, recording the CD Lutz Buechner/Alex Riel Quartet – Live at Jive in Veile, Denmark, and played with the group at Jazz Festivals in Norway, Denmark, Germany, and Vietnam.
Lutz is a member of Joe Gallardo`s “Latino Blue“ and played with Gallardo at the Burghausen Jazz Festival in Vienna and at Jazzbaltica in Salzau. His own music can be heard on the CD Ring.
